Weekend
I love the weekends! This weekend was no exception, and it was an especially busy one with lots of special events.
My sister Erika is getting married in September so we had a wedding shower for her on Saturday. On Friday the girls all spent time at my parents house and before we set up for the shower we enjoyed some great girl time. We spent the afternoon at the pool! It was a perfect summer day and we all got some good sun!
After enjoying the pool my Aunt TJ and I ran some errands and then all of the girls went to dinner at Boathouse. My Grandma Duncan, her friend Laurine, Aunt TJ, my mom, the soon to be bride Erika, Elena, and I all were at dinner. The Boathouse is one of our favorite places to eat. We had quite the adventure getting to dinner! The sky had started getting darker and darker as we were loading into the car to leave, and by the time we had gotten down by the lake near the restaurant the weather was TERRIBLE. The wind was so strong and huge branches were falling everywhere. We about got hit by one, but luckily made it safely to the parking lot. Elena and I dropped everyone off and then went and parked. I was afraid we were going to blow away as we ran into the restaurant! Once inside, the weather really got bad. I've never seen the waves as big as they were on Winona that night, it was crazy! A few sailboats tipped over right by the restaurant and the power went off and on a few times. Luckily, it passed fairly quickly and there was not too much damage! It certainly was an adventure though! We enjoyed a delicious dinner and then went back to my parent's house to decorate for the shower.
James was gone on a camping trip with his dad and brother, so I spent that night with everyone at my parent's house. My dad was also gone for a bike race, so it really was a girls weekend!
Saturday we had Erika's shower. It was perfect. My aunt and grandma did a great job planning it! Lots of lovely ladies showed up to celebrate Erika and Alex and they got some great stuff. I will have a whole post about the shower coming soon! I am so excited for the big wedding day. It's going to be wonderful!
After the shower, we cleaned up and spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool. We have a new BBQ restaurant that just opened in town, so we went there for dinner. Most of our family had left to travel back home, so it was just my mom, Erika, Elena, and I at dinner. It was delicious and I can't wait to go back with James! After dinner my mom and I sat outside and read and enjoyed a quiet evening!
Sunday was Father's Day. My sisters and I are blessed to have an incredible dad. He truly is the perfect example of what a Godly father should be. He is the most giving, compassionate, caring, forgiving man I know. He is always there for my sisters and I and is so full of wisdom! My dad would take us on dates when we were little, and always made each of us feel so special and loved. I still love meeting my dad for lunch dates! My dad would help me with my homework and study spelling words with me when I was in elementary school and never missed a school event that I was in. The most difficult thing about going away to college was leaving my parents. I remember crying the entire way back to Indiana Wesleyan after Christmas Vacation my freshmen year of college. Home has always been a wonderful and safe place and I am so thankful for all my dad and mom do for me! To celebrate Father's Day we all went to lunch at Hacienda. We had a great time together. After lunch we went over and got ice cream at Ritter's. Then we spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool! James got back from camping in time to meet us at lunch. I was so glad for him to be home! He had a great time with his dad and John, and I was so glad they could enjoy their time together.
It was a great weekend. I loved being able to spent time with family. Last night I spent time thinking about how blessed I am by my family, and how thankful I am for all of them. I hope you all had a great weekend too!
